Division 3 report
Â
Stirling’s Kayak Polo team finished its season with its final four match blitz in Glenrothes. The season finished in much the same way as it started with a promising but mixed set of results.
Â
The first match against Dundee University did not start well. Stirling were 1-0 down within the first 2 minutes after sloppy marking left Dundee with an easy walk to the goal. Stirling hit back straight from the kick off when Dundee’s blitz defence was undone by a lobbed ball over 4 defenders led to an easy finish for Captain Danielle King. Two goals from David McCorkell and one from strike partner Jack Day allowed Stirling to run out easy winners.
Â
A 2-1 loss to the Orkney Voles followed. Stirling were under the cosh for long stretches of the match and the score line was certainly flattering. This was followed up by a second anaemic attacking display against Dundee Ladies, which ended in a 0-0 draw. The draw was preserved by some by some fantastic defence from Gail Croft. The game saw Jack enter the referee’s notebook for the third time this season, this time for a foul to stop a certain Dundee goal.
Â
The day ended on a positive note with a hard fought draw against a Glasgow team who, on paper, were much better. Callum Harley’s stunning goalkeeping performance was a great sign for the future progression of the team.
Â
Unfortunately not long after the end of the league season the team was dealt a blow when Danielle King resigned as Captain. Frasier Nielson takes over for the Scottish University Championships in Glasgow at the start of February.
